Dr. Wilhelm uses latest technology to give patients the ability to improve smile in one appointment

Woodbury, Minnesota – March 31, 2009 – Dr. Wilhelm, DMD MSD, announced today that he is providing patients with a new and affordable dental appliance called the Easy Smile, giving patients the appearance of a perfect set of teeth and an ideal smile without having to undergo time-consuming and sometimes intrusive reconstruction procedures. The Easy Smile is a resin-based, temporary appliance that snaps over a patient’s teeth to change their appearance. It doesn’t involve drills, cutting down of existing tooth structure, sedation dentistry or needles, and allows the patient to instantly experience the benefits of a new smile without undergoing permanent tooth reconstruction.

Easy Smiles are made out of acetyl resin, an extremely strong material that is also flexible and comes in a variety of natural tooth colors. The interior surfaces of the Easy Smile dental appliance closely fit and conform to the surface of a patient’s real, broken or missing teeth. Although it is a temporary answer, Easy Smiles are tough and resilient enough to last up to two years. They are completely functional and can be worn all day. Easy Smiles fit precisely and securely allowing patients to immediately enjoy a new smile.

“I have worked with many temporary teeth systems throughout the years and I am very excited about providing patients with the ability to enhance their smile in a short amount of time,” said Dr. Wilhelm. “Dentistry continues to evolve allowing me to continue to raise the bar on the level and types of services I am able to provide patients.”

“After my accident, the loss of my teeth made me self conscious and to be honest, I had forgotten not only what my smile looked like, but how to smile confidently,” said Jim Lang, a patient of Dr. Wilhelm’s. “With the Easy Smile my confidence is back and my friends and family are constantly telling me how natural and contagious my new smile is.”

Dr. Wilhelm, DMD MSD, and Staff Receives Exclusive ACE™ Certification To Provide Patients with Expert Periodontal Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

WOODBURY, Minnesota – September 25, 2007 – Dr. Wilhelm, DMD MSD, and his entire staff recently received ARESTIN® Certified Expert (ACE™) certification after completing comprehensive training on the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease.

The exclusive ACE™ certification is important because periodontal disease is the most common chronic bacterial infection in adults, affecting 35.7 million Americans,1 and is the leading cause of adult tooth loss.2 In addition, the Surgeon General has issued a warning3 regarding the possible relationship between periodontal disease and a variety of medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis.

“Knowing the negative impact periodontal disease can have on an individual’s oral health and general health prompted me to enroll in the ACE™ certification training,” said Dr. Wilhelm “I felt it was important that my entire staff went through the periodontal disease diagnosis and treatment training program to ensure we can provide our patients with the highest standard of care available.”

In order to earn ACE™ certification, Dr. Wilhelm and his staff was trained and tested in the following areas: accurate diagnosis of periodontal disease, effective treatment protocol, accurate insurance coding, the benefits of using LAAs, staff and patient education, encouraging patient compliance, patient monitoring, and the possible systemic health risks of untreated periodontal disease.

ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) Microspheres, 1 mg is a locally administered antibiotic (LAA) manufactured by OraPharma, Inc. to treat periodontal disease. Clinical studies have proven that ARESTIN® used as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) is more effective than SRP alone in eliminating periodontal pathogens.4 SRP is a manual procedure that is performed by a dentist or registered dental hygienist, whereby bacterial pathogens residing in the plaque and tartar are removed from below the gum line while smoothing the tooth’s root surfaces to promote healing and prevent plaque from again taking hold.

Dr. Mark W. Wilhelm’s Dental Caries Management Program Offers Patients a Revolutionary Way to Treat Dental Caries and Prevent Cavities

Dr. Wilhelm first to develop treatment and prevention program in Minnesota

WOODBURY, Minnesota – February 15, 2007 – Dr. Wilhelm, DMD MSD, today announced that he has created the first Dental Caries Management Program in Minnesota. The Program is unique in that it provides Dr. Wilhelm with a way to proactively diagnose and prevent dental caries prior to a patient getting their first cavity. Most treatment plans today focus solely on the symptoms of dental caries (cavities), not on prevention or a cure. Dr. Wilhelm’s Caries Management Program targets the biofilm, where cavity-creating bacteria grows, to treat and reverse dental caries, giving patients an easy, affordable and painless solution to a debilitating problem.

“More than any other technology that I’ve owned or techniques I’ve learned, this program has the most potential to change peoples’ lives,” said Dr. Wilhelm. “Until now I’ve only been able to treat dental caries through restoration and extraction. Now I can provide my patients with a noninvasive and affordable way to prevent or reverse a disease that was once thought incurable.”

Over the last one hundred years treatment has focused on eliminating bacteria by emphasizing oral hygiene and fluoride application. When that has failed, treatment involving a filling or crown is provided to restore the tooth. And so the symptomatic-cycle begins, dental caries patients continue to get cavities and restoration treatment without addressing the cause of the cavities. Dr. Wilhelm’s Caries Management Program is the first to provide dental caries prevention and restoration by first testing and measuring the level of bacterial activity in a patient’s mouth and then treating and altering the biofilm to create and keep healthy teeth. The treatment is then followed up with maintenance rinses, personal oral hygiene and professional exams.

Who is affected by Dental Caries?

Dental caries (cavities) and periodontal diseases are the most common oral diseases and 85 percent of adults in the US are affected.

Although dental caries is largely preventable, it remains the most common chronic disease of children aged 5 to 17 years – five times more common than asthma.

Many adults also have untreated dental caries (27% of those 35 to 44 years old and 30% of those 65 years and older). </li<>
