What A Prosthodontist Does

Like other dentists, prosthodontists must complete a dental school education. As specialists, prosthodontists have additional training in specific aspects of dentistry.

Prosthodontists are not the only specialists.

Endodontists are experts on diseases that affect dental pulp and root canal treatments. Periodontists focus on preventing and treating gum disease.

Prosthodontists are experts in dental prosthetics. You may have known someone with a prosthetic hand, foot, or leg. Dental prosthetics are used to replace and repair teeth.

Dental implants are a great example of this. Implants are replacements for the roots of missing teeth.

Implants are used to support replacements for the crowns of your teeth. These can include dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures.

Dental crowns can be used one their own to replace teeth that are broken, cracked, or damaged due to tooth decay. Dental bridges and partial dentures are used to replace multiple teeth, and dentures are replacements for whole rows of teeth.

If you need any of these services, you will know you are receiving expert care at our dentist office in Woodbury, MN. We can work with your general dentist to make sure you get the best possible service.

Dr. Wilhelm, Our Prosthodontist

Dr. Mark W. Wilhelm graduated from the University of Illinois before earning his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine.

But his education didn’t stop there. He completed a Master of Science in Dentistry certificates in prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics at Indiana University.

He has worked at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and at Indiana University. He also served on the staff of the Health East Hospital system.

Since 1990, he has had a private practice in St. Paul before opening his location in Woodbury, MN. In that time Dr. Wilhelm and his staff have helped thousands of patients restore their smiles with top-quality teeth replacements.

You might say that Dr. Wilhelm’s education has never stopped. In 1998, he went to the prestigious Misch Implant Institute in Pittsburgh for extensive dental implant training. In 2008, he completed a course at the Kois Center, where he was awarded Mentor status and was a Recognized Specialist.

He also is a member a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. To attain this rank, Dr. Wilhelm had to demonstrate his skill with examples of his work for scores of patients, a minimum of 150 hours of continuous education, and letters of recommendation from his peers.

All this is to say that Dr. Wilhelm has shown his ability and earned the respect of his professional dental peers.

Dr. Wilhelm takes pride in helping patients feel better about their smiles again. It’s hard to describe how repairing or replacing missing teeth can make a difference in someone’s self-esteem.

We do know we’ve seen it happen time and time again in our office, and it always gives us a good feeling to see our patients’ smiles.

You can schedule a consultation if you would like to learn more about what we can do at our dentist office in Woodbury.
