Eliminate Painful Wisdom Teeth

What Are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are extra molars that grow in the very back of your jaw usually during your late teenage years. The problem with these teeth is that they often do not have the proper space to grow in since your mouth and jaw is already fully formed. When these new teeth try to grow, they often get blocked by bone and surrounding teeth, causing impaction and tooth pain. If these wisdom teeth are left impacted in your mouth, they can cause damage to your other teeth, push them together and cause crowding, throw off your bite and even develop an infection. Dr. Mark Wilhelm uses his over three decades of experience to remove these problem wisdom teeth right in our Woodbury, MN office! Once we gently remove these teeth, you’ll be free of the tooth pain and soreness and able to get back to a normal lifestyle.

How We Extract Wisdom Teeth

If you’re worried about wisdom teeth, we encourage you to come in for a consultation and examination. Sometimes tooth pain that may feel like a wisdom tooth could be another condition like a tooth infection or cavity. If we do identify that you’ll need to have wisdom teeth removed, Dr. Wilhelm will then use modern digital x-rays to capture information on the health of your mouth, position of surrounding teeth and the location of jaw nerves. These images will also show us the wisdom teeth and where they’re located so we can plan their removal.

On the day of surgery, we use local anesthetic and oral sedation to make you feel calm, relaxed and free of discomfort. Most patients report only feeling a dull pressure as they have their wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Wilhelm will use extreme care to gently remove your impacted wisdom teeth from the gum and bone tissue in your mouth. We can perform this treatment in a manner that causes the least impact to your surrounding structures. Once the wisdom teeth are removed, we will pack the empty socket and suture your gums to allow for proper healing.
